During Operation Perch, the 7th British Armed Division of Monty, makes a
march against Villers-Bocage, a crossroads of tactical interest, with the
expectation that it will offer little resistance.
During this advance the division suffers great losses, since it is ambushed in
multiple occasions by the Pz.Abt 101 of the Pz Lehr of the SS, endangering its
advance and the taking of the strategic point.
Fortunately, the boys of the 1st North American division, were behind them,
and with the support of the RAF with their Typhoon with missiles, so that in
the end the Germans must retreat to the east.
But during the advance, the 1st Division had to fight many skirmishes, and many
others not so skirmishes, against the well prepared and trained troops of the
Pz.Abt 101, as the meeting at the junction of Boquessard, west of
Villers-Bocage , that the Americans have arrived on June 14, 1944 to reinforce
the advance of the 7th Division of Monty, the famous Rats of the Desert.
tablero.
Note: In the image, the North is to the left of the board.
Meanwhile, in Boquessard, although the people of the town are hiding in
their houses, "others" are preparing the ground to be able to recover
the crossing.
The Germans advance through the east and southeast of Boquessard to take
the crossing.
The American artillery begins bombarding the surroundings of Boquessard, to
clear the arriving enemy, and thus protect the advance of their troops.
Meanwhile, the infantry makes an approach from the North.
While the armored units, approach from the road that arrives from the west.
The infantry support mortars take positions to support the advance.
The German armored units take positions on the outskirts of the population,
since they see that it is the best position to defend the crossing and prevent
the Americans from positioning themselves.
But again, the American artillery continues to cause the German plans to be
hindered.
The American advance does not go with the desired speed.
The only thing that prevents the Germans from becoming strong at the
Boquessard crossing is the American artillery.
In the end, the American infantry decides to advance, trying to ambush a
German antitank, which prevents their armored vehicles from approaching safely.
Boquessard.
And the American armor can begin to approach Boquessard.
The German infantry becomes strong in Boquessard.
But the American, thanks to the mouths, is ambushing the German troops.
Meanwhile, from the east, part of their tanks get through the mouth to
start the advance protected by him.
And the tanks, they manage to advance from the outskirts of the town.
Well ... one does not have clear progress, not to be exposed to the German
armor.
And the tanks are positioned and begin to counteract the German push.
At that time the crossing, which had been taken by the Germans, it is not clear
who is the one who dominates it.
blindados norteamericanos.
The German bombing harms the advance of all American armor.
But choose to strengthen the positions, before the imminent duel between
armored.
The German MG, do not hesitate to use the bocage, to prevent the North
American troops from reaching the north to Boquessard.
Since the armored advance is complicated, the German motorized troops
choose to start the advance on foot.
alemanas.
Meanwhile, the American MG also punish the Germans.
And its armored, they get that the Germans can not progress at the speed
they have done so far.
The company manager must reach the delayed tank, and give him "a couple of cakes" to move forward.
Although the German armored vehicles are waiting for that tank to advance
to get ready.
La insistencia norteamericana consigue eliminar el
antitanque que dominaba la carretera norte.
The American insistence manages to eliminate the antitank that dominated
the northern highway.
And the delayed tank, in an act of bravery, manages to reach the crossroads
and stand up "bare-chested" to the German tanks. To this tank I
believe that it will take the name of "Lucky" from now on, since it
has advanced under enemy fire, and they have not done anything to him.
This insistence causes one of the German armored vehicles to retreat.
The infantry faces the German MGs, placed behind the bocage on the other
side of the road, and the units barricaded inside the houses of Boquessard.
flanquear.
While the German armored vehicles are being punished by the US tanks, the
armored infantry, which have descended from their vehicles, start an advance
through the south of Boquessard, to try to flank.
And the German MGs have their own problems with the US infantry.
mucho.
The American infantry, although it is superior to the German infantry, it
is not clear what to advance crossing the road, and they think it a lot.
In the end, between the little success of the German troops and the American
indecision (the dice did not accompany either of the two players), the game
ended at a point where neither was the winner, neither of the two we had taken
and dominated the crossing, clear goal of the game, so we left it on boards.
What is clear is that the dice can cause a game to benefit or harm one of the
contenders, but in this case, it hurt both of us. Between our general lost the
opportunity to give a miserable order in many of the turns, and that when
shooting, the dice said that our troops were one-eyed or cross-eyed, the
laughter was assured from the beginning of the game.
Because even the American artillery, which barely deflected the shot, had to
shoot with blank bullets, in view of the disastrous results of the bombings,
which did not make a miserable low to the Germans.
But the big laugh will never be taken away from us.
