Defense of the population
El avance francés es inexorable durante el verano de 1812.
Por ello el Zar Alejandro I decide enviar sus tropas a
defender una población que se encuentra cercana a un cruce. Esta población es
importante para los franceses por un doble motivo.
Por un lado domina el cruce, necesario para el avance de sus
tropas hacia Moscú, y el otro factor a
tener en cuenta es que los franceses necesitan tener una población para hacer
de base de operaciones, ya que un anterior puesto está demasiado lejos para
poder decidir mover tropas.
The French advance is inexorable during the summer of
1812.
That is why Tsar Alexander I decides to send his
troops to defend a town that is close to a crossroads. This town is important
to the French for two reasons.
On the one hand, the crossing dominates, necessary for
the advance of their troops towards Moscow, and the other factor to take into
account is that the French need to have a population to act as a base of
operations, since a previous post is too far away to be able to decide to move
troops.
La batalla empieza con el despliegue ruso alrededor de la
población, y los franceses despliegan de forma un tanto precipitada, ya que
estaban en columna de marcha hacia la población que, según sus informaciones,
no había tropas rusas en los alrededores.
The battle begins with the Russian deployment around
the town, and the French deploy in a somewhat hasty manner, since they were in
a column of march towards the town that, according to their information, there
were no Russian troops in the surroundings.
La Brigada principal de las tropas rusas se despliegan frente
a la entrada de la población apoyada por una batería media (Foot Batery), una
pequeño brigada a la izquierda, en
posible previsión de un intento de flanquearles, apoyada por una batería pesada
(Heavy Battery), mientas que la brigada de caballería se encuentra en una
posición algo más retrasada, para poder maniobrar allí donde se necesite romper a las tropas francesas.
The main Brigade of the Russian troops are deployed in
front of the entrance of the population supported by a medium battery (Foot Battery),
a small brigade to the left, in anticipation of an attempt to flank them,
supported by a Heavy Battery, while the cavalry brigade is in a somewhat more
backward position, to be able to maneuver where it is necessary to break the
French troops.
La
avanzadilla francesa despliega una brigada en dirección al cruce, y un
regimiento de la brigada de caballería con una batería ligera (Horse Battery) a
su derecha.
The French advance party deploys a brigade in the direction of the
crossing, and a regiment of the cavalry brigade with a light battery (Horse Battery)
to its right.
Aprovechando
la colina cercana al camino, despliegan su batería pesada. El segundo regimiento
de la brigada de caballería despliega a la derecha de la colina y otra brigada
de infantería ha flanqueado hasta colocarse en una posición ventajosa, si no
fuera porque los rusos han previsto este despliegue.
Taking advantage of the hill near the road, they deploy their heavy
battery. The second regiment of the cavalry brigade deploys to the right of the
hill and another infantry brigade has flanked to an advantageous position, were
it not for the Russians planning this deployment.
Está
claro que la avanzadilla francesa han visto con tiempo a las defensas rusas.

ahead of time.
La
caballería francesa no pierde el tiempo y consigue avanzar hasta colocar su
artillería ligera en el camino, para poder tener un disparo fácil. Y no pierden
el tiempo.
The French cavalry wastes no time and manages to advance until they
place their light artillery on the road, in order to have an easy shot. And they don't waste time.
Y
la batería pesada sobre la colina, tampoco pierde el tiempo.
And the heavy battery on the hill, also does not waste time.
Toda
la artillería francesa centran sus disparos sobre la infantería que evita su
flanqueo.
All the French artillery focus their shots on the infantry that avoids
their flanking.
Estando
las unidades rusas debilitadas, el avance francés no se hace esperar, por lo
que los rusos van a su encuentro (“que hace ese General!! Sus órdenes eran las
de aguantar el ataque francés y no moverse de su posición”)
With the Russian units weakened, the French advance did not wait, so the
Russians went to meet them ("what is that General doing? His orders were
to hold the French attack and not move from his position")
El
General de la defensa de la población no da crédito a lo que hace su flanco
derecho.

La
brigada principal francesa, también avanzan hacia el cruce.

La
artillería francesa no ceja en disparar hacia las tropas rusas del cruce, ya que
han recibido la orden de avanzar hasta el cruce y protegerlo.
The French artillery does not stop firing at the Russian troops at the
crossing, as they have been ordered to advance to the crossing and protect it.
Y
hacen lo propio con las unidades de nuestro flanco derecho.
And they do the same with the units on our right flank.
La
batería pesada rusa responde a las provocaciones francesas.

Con
la infantería francesa llegando al cruce, El regimiento de Dragones rusos carga
en columna sobre las unidades francesas, cogiéndolas desprevenidas.
Pero
el batallón francés que recibe el embiste de la caballería rusa, consiguen
formar en cuadro, aunque de forma precipitada.
With the French infantry reaching the crossing, the Russian Dragoons
regiment charged in column on the French units, catching them off guard.
But the French battalion that receives the onslaught of the Russian
cavalry, managed to form a square, albeit hastily.
El
según regimiento de caballería Rusa, los Húsares, van detrás para apoyar a los
Dragones.
The second Russian cavalry regiment, the Hussars, go behind to support
the Dragons.
Al
ponerse en cuadro, aunque ha sido de forma precipitada, y con el apoyo de los
batallones cercanos, ha sido suficiente para rechazar la carga y dejar mermada
al regimiento de Dragones.
When putting itself in square, although it has been in a hasty way, and
with the support of the nearby battalions, it has been enough to reject the
load and leave the regiment of Dragoons depleted.
Pero
los Húsares , viendo que la infantería no les deja acercarse, deciden llevar el
mismo camino que los Dragones.

to take the same path as the Dragons.
Una
buena partida, aunque sin finalizar, como nos pasa casi siempre, que nos ha
enseñado como cargar con la caballería, como formar cuadro y como apoyar la
defensa del cuadro con la infantería cercana, y como recolocar la infantería
para que la artillería sólo alcance a un único regimiento.
A good game, although not finished, as it almost always happens to us,
which has taught us how to charge with the cavalry, how to form a square and
how to support the defense of the square with the nearby infantry, and how to
reposition the infantry so that the artillery only reaches to a single
regiment.
Buen
compañía con gente que pasó a saludar y a ver como se desarrolla el juego de
Shakó II y bastantes risas, motivos por los que solemos no terminar las
partidas.
Una
buena tarde con escusa de na buena partida es suficiente para reunirnos uno 5
compañeros de batallas para ver, reír y, sobre todo, hablar y comentar
proyectos actuales, cercanos y futuros.
