En agosto de 1937 los Republicanos marcharon sobre Zaragoza,
ya que necesitaban una victoria ideológia y propagandística para que el pueblo
siguiera con ellos, pero el General Franco dio la orden de que Belchite se
debía defender hasta el último hombre.
Los bombardeos fueron incesantes sobre la población,
habiendo muchas bajas civiles.
Y a 1º de septiembre, los republicanos, unos 26.000 soldados
entraron en Belchite, defendida por escasamente 2.200 soldados de la
sublevación y otros 2.000 civiles que se encontraron entre dos fuegos.
Y aun así, los republicanos perdieron.
In August 1937 the Republicans marched on Zaragoza,
since they needed an ideological and propaganda victory for the people to
continue with them, but General Franco gave the order that Belchite should
defend himself to the last man.
The bombings were incessant on the population, with
many civilian casualties.
And on September 1, the Republicans, some 26,000
soldiers entered Belchite, defended by scarcely 2,200 soldiers from the
uprising and another 2,000 civilians who were found between two fires.
And still, the Republicans lost.
Cuando nos planteamos realizar esta partida histórica para
realizarla durante la jornada DAU Històric 2019, en Barcelona, queríamos que
fuesen los primero compases de la batalla de 1º de septiembre, en la que un número
muy superior de republicanos avanzan por la entrada oeste de la población, en
la que se encuentra la vaquería, la fábrica de aceite “La Carbonera” y el
convento con su iglesia mayor.

When we planned to carry out this historic game to do
it during the DAU Històric 2019 day, in Barcelona, we wanted them to be the
first bars of the battle of September 1, in which a much higher number of
Republicans advance through the western entrance of the town , which includes
the dairy, the "La Carbonera" oil factory and the convent with its
main church.

El montaje se realizó la tarde anterior a la jornada DAU
Històric 2019, a falta de que llegará la iglesia.
The assembly was carried out the afternoon before the
DAU Històric 2019, in the absence of the church arriving.
Aunque faltaba por llegar una pocas piezas, ya se podía ver
la forma de las calles, muy similar a las fotos aéreas que se tenían, de
finales de agosto, que se ha visto antes.

already see the shape of the streets, very similar to the aerial photos that
were taken, from the end of August, which have been seen before.
La mesa, ya con la iglesia y con los escombros colocados,
daba gusto verlo. Y a la vez, nos podía hacer una idea de lo que sufrieron los habitantes
durante los bombardeos, 32 en total en dos meses.
The table, already with the church and with the rubble
placed, was a pleasure to see it. And at the same time, it could give us an
idea of what the inhabitants suffered during the bombings, 32 in total in two

Sólo con la iglesia del convento de San Agustín, se puede jugar
una buena partida independiente.

Dos buenos elementos de escenografía y lo primero en lo que se fijaban todo el
público al evento.
Las tropas defensoras de Belchite, se reparten
escalonadamente entre los edificios, tanto en ruinas como todavía enteros.
Por un lado unidades de la Falange.

The defending troops of Belchite, are distributed in
stages among the buildings, both in ruins and still whole.
On the one hand, units of the Falange.
Y por otro unidades de la Guardia Civil.
And by another Civil Guard units.
Los pocos cañones anti tanques que quedaban intactos, se
posicionan en puntos estratégicos para evitar el avance de los T-26
republicanos.
The few anti-tank guns left intact are positioned at
strategic points to prevent the advance of the Republican T-26.
Se acuerda que el objetivo de los republicanos, es llegar
hasta el cruce entre las calles Mengranera y la calle Mayor, un punto neurálgico de Belchite,
representado por una cruz de piedra.
It is agreed that the objective of the republicans is
to reach the intersection between Calle Mengranera and Calle Mayor, a nerve
center of Belchite, represented by a stone cross.
Y que, evidentemente, los sublevados deben hacer lo
imposible para que no lleguen, por lo que se monta una barricada justo en
frente, para evitarlo, por el acceso oeste a la plaza, por la calle Mengranera,
que defenderán los voluntarios civiles.
And that, obviously, the rebels must do the impossible
so that they do not arrive, reason why a barricade is mounted just in front, to
avoid it, by the west access to the square, by the Mengranera street, that the
civilian volunteers will defend.
Y se opta por colocar uno de los antitanques en esta
barricada, ya que los tanques son las unidades más fuertes que tienen el bando
contrario.
And it is decided to place one of the anti-tanks on
this barricade, since the tanks are the strongest units that have the opposite
side.
Por el acceso sur desde la plaza de Goya, el Arco de la Villa,
que da la entrada al objetivo por la calle Mayor, se parapeta con otras barricadas.

Y otra unidad de la Falange se encarga de proteger el
acceso.

En el frente, una unidad de Requetés, se esconde entre los
escombros de la iglesia, para frenar el avance que puedan hacer a través de
ella.

Fuera de la iglesia, por si quieren rodearla, hay dos
unidades de tropa regular esperando agazapados.

Y son las brigadas internacionales las primeras en avanzar.

La artillería se posiciona en una colina cercana a la
entrada del pueblo, para proteger el avance de la infantería.
The artillery is positioned on a hill near the
entrance of the town, to protect the advance of the infantry.
Y los T-26 avanzan a la par que la infantería, para allanar
el terreno.
Ver avanzar un tanque hacia tu posición, os aseguro que
impone, aunque sea un tanque pequeño.
And the T-26 advance along with the infantry, to pave
the way.
See a tank advance towards your position, I assure you
that it imposes, even if it is a small tank.
Al llegar a la entrada del pueblo, las tropas republicanas, aun
siendo un número algo superior (en la
partida), optan por avanzar usando los muros como protección.
When arriving at the entrance of the town, the
republican troops, even being a somewhat higher number (in the game), choose to
advance using the walls as protection.
Y rápidamente llegan hasta la fábrica.
And they quickly get to the factory.
Aunque una unidad de regulares de los defensores avanzan
para enfrentarse en batalla en la fábrica.
Although a regular unit of defenders advance to face
battle in the factory.
Las unidades del exterior de la iglesia, posicionan una
ametralladora en la calle Callizo de la Pila, cubriendo el acceso desde la
iglesia y desde la calle Mengranera.
The units
outside the church position a machine gun on Callizo de la Pila street,
covering the access from the church and from Mengranera street.
Los jugadores que llevamos los sublevados, preparando la
estrategia a seguir, y un espía oculto a nuestras espaldas.

Mientras decidimos cambiar la estrategia iniciada, los
republicanos siguen avanzando.
While we decided to change the strategy started, the

Las Brigadas Internacionales deciden avanzar hacia la
iglesia, pasando por la vaquería.
The International Brigades decide to advance towards
the church, passing through the dairy.

Los Requetés abandonan la ábside central de la iglesia, y se
encarama a la zona más alta, que domina el interior, por un lado y el exterior
por el otro.
The Requetés leave the central apse of the church, and

exterior on the other.
Las Brigadas Internacionales prueban suerte intentando
atravesar la iglesia.
The International Brigades try their luck trying to
get through the church.

Aunque la tirada de dados acompañaba a las brigadas
internacionales y los requetés tienen más bajas.

Aunque nada más replegarse las tropas regulares, las

El combate en la fábrica es más clara por los republicanos,
ya que una escuadra de defensores se topa con tres escuadras de atacantes.
Debido a obedecer la orden de “no retroceder”, quedan pronto
eliminados.
The combat in the factory is clearer by the
Republicans, as a squad of defenders runs into three squadrons of attackers.

Al final después de estar jugando todo el sábado y la mañana
del domingo, de la mitad de la mesa de juego no se consigue pasar.
Aunque los sublevados consiguen frenar a los republicanos,
el coste ha sido muy alto y han tenido más del doble de bajas.
Está bastante claro que, de seguir así, los atacantes tienen
las de ganar, aunque…
Muy buen ambiente, saludando a muchos conocidos que hacía años
que no nos veíamos, muchas risas y una buena partida.
¿Qué más se puede pedir?
In the end, after playing all Saturday and Sunday
morning, half of the table cannot be passed.
Although the rebels manage to stop the Republicans,
the cost has been very high and they have had more than double the casualties.
It is quite clear that if they continue like this, the
attackers have the chance to win, although…
Very good atmosphere, greeting many acquaintances that
we hadn't seen each other for years, lots of laughs and a good game.
