A Bridge Too Far

En esta ocasión nos juntamos para probar la mesa de juego para se había llevado  a la jornada de Alpha Ares del año 2015, pero con tranquilidad y sin el agobio de mucha gente preguntándote de todo.

La partida la realicemos en la tienda Infernal Forge, patrocinador de la mesa de juego.

On this occasion we got together to test the game table to have taken the Alpha Ares day of 2015, but with calm and without the burden of many people asking you about everything.

The game is made in the Infernal Forge store, sponsor of the game table.

Tengo que decir que la mesa era espectacular, y fue realizada con edificios que habían en el mercado, intentando recrear el extremo de acceso del puente de Arnhem, que los paracaidistas británicos quisieron defender a toda costa, dentro de la Operación Market Garden.

I have to say that the table was spectacular, and it was made with buildings that were in the market, trying to recreate the access end of the Arnhem bridge, which the British paratroopers wanted to defend at all costs, within Operation Market Garden.

Los británicos parten del momento en que ya están en la población y se atrincheran en los edificios cercanos.

The British start from the moment when they are already in the population and dig in the nearby buildings.

Tanto dentro como fuera de ellos.

Both inside and outside of them.

Y a la salida del puente se coloca un 6Lb, para no dejar pasar a los vehículos.

And at the exit of the bridge a 6 Pound is placed, so as not to let the vehicles pass.

También se coloca escenografía de acompañamiento, más de cara a la foto que para poderse utilizar.

Accompanying scenery is also placed, more facing the photo than to be able to use it.

Mientras los alemanes aparecen por el puente, ya que representa que vienen desde el otro extremo, que es donde estaban acampados.

While the Germans appear by the bridge, since it represents that they come from the other end, which is where they were camped.

Como los alemanes van en vehículos, su avance es muy rápido.

Since the Germans are in vehicles, their advance is very fast.

Aunque se consiguen dejar en fuera de juego a un par de vehículos, esto no es nada para nuestro enemigo.

Although a couple of vehicles are knocked out, this is nothing for our enemy.

Y desde las casas cercanas se intenta hacer que se detenga el convoy.

And from the nearby houses an attempt is made to stop the convoy.

Alguno de los blindados alemanes consiguen llegar al final del puente y eliminar al 6Lb.

Some of the German armor manage to reach the end of the bridge and eliminate the 6 Pounds.

Mientras, un transporte semioruga llega hasta una de las escaleras laterales del puente para iniciar el descenso por ellas.

Meanwhile, a half-track transport arrives at one of the side stairs of the bridge to start the descent down them.

Aunque no quedan exentos  de recibir un poco de plomo desde las azoteas de las casas.

Although they are not exempt from receiving a little lead from the roofs of the houses.

Aun habiendo perdido el cañón 6Lb, las tropas de encima de las azoteas dan al convoy alemán un buen recibimiento.

Even having lost the 6 Pound cannon, the troops from above the roofs give the German convoy a good reception.

Por lo que las tropas alemanas les cuesta mucho conseguir salir del puente.

So the German troops have a hard time getting off the bridge.

Los paracaidistas británicos, no están dispuestos a dejar que les echen de Arnhem.

British paratroopers are unwilling to be thrown out of Arnhem.

Aunque el principio del puente parece que ya está libre, los soldados  que quedan, venden cara esa posición.

Although the beginning of the bridge seems to be free, the remaining soldiers sell that position dearly.

Todo ello hace que el avance alemán, que inicialmente parecía que era un paseo, empiece a costarles mucho y a plantearse que no ha sido tan buena idea intentar llegar al principio del puente.

All this makes the German advance, which initially seemed like a walk, begin to cost them a lot and to consider that it was not such a good idea to try to get to the beginning of the bridge.

Cuando las tropas alemanas llegan a pie de calle, la dificultad empieza a ser seria para los británicos.

When the German troops arrive at street level, the difficulty begins to be serious for the British.

Al final uno de los lados del puente queda algo despejado de británicos y los alemanes consiguen acercarse mejor hacia las escaleras de acceso.

At the end, one side of the bridge is somewhat clear of the British and the Germans are able to get closer to the access stairs.

Y ahora el problema empieza a ser para los paracaidistas UK.

And now the problem begins to be for UK paratroopers.

Los alemanes empiezan a repartirse por el pueblo, a la caza del británico.

The Germans begin to spread around the town, on the hunt for the British.

Pero como estos están en los edificios y la tropa germana llega por la calle, aun es fácil oponer una resistencia seria.

But since these are in the buildings and the German troops arrive on the street, it is still easy to put up serious resistance.

Al final, después de todo un día de partida, la ciudad estaba por sectores ocupada por británicos y otros retomada por los alemanes.

En el punto en el que tuvimos que dejar la partida, no estaba claro quien estaba ganando, aunque hay que decir que a los alemanes aún les quedaban refuerzos de tropas por entrar, tanto por el puente como por una de las entradas laterales del pueblo.

Estaba muy claro que el final de la partida se iba a asemejar al resultado de real de la batalla en Arnhem: los británicos hechos prisioneros o con el rabo entre las patas.

Un bonito día de partida con diversión y muchas risas.

In the end, after a whole day's departure, the city was divided into sectors occupied by the British and others retaken by the Germans.

At the point where we had to leave the game, it was not clear who was winning, although it must be said that the Germans still had reinforcements of troops to enter, both by the bridge and by one of the side entrances of the town.

It was very clear that the end of the game was going to resemble the real result of the battle in Arnhem: the British taken prisoner or with their tails between their legs.

A nice departure day with fun and lots of laughs.
