Musket and Tomahawk Demo
Ahora hace un año, justo antes de conocer que estábamos de
lleno en una pandemia mundial, Antonio (aka Loshtar) nos realizó una demo del
juego de escaramuzas de Mosquete y Tomahawk.
Un juego muy interesante que recrea la guerra Franco-India
contra los británicos. Una película que todos podemos recordar de esa época es
“El último mohicano” de 1992 (en total hay 3 películas con el mismo nombre, y
más de una decena de la misma ambientación).
Francamente nos pareció muy acertada, tanto las reglas como
la ambientación, aunque personalmente esperaba algo más para unas partidas de
escaramuza, pero no está nada mal, para pasar una tarde entretenida.
Now a year ago, just before we learned that we were in
the throes of a global pandemic, Antonio (aka Loshtar) gave us a demo of the
Musket and Tomahawk skirmish game.
A very interesting game that recreates the
Franco-Indian war against the British. A film that we can all remember from
that time is "The Last of the Mohicans" from 1992 (in total there are
3 films with the same name, and more than a dozen of the same setting).
Frankly we found it very successful, both the rules
and the setting, although personally I expected something more for some
skirmish games, but it is not bad at all, to spend an entertaining afternoon.
La partida se preparó sobre una mesa de 120x120.
The game was prepared on a 120x120cm table.
En esta ocasión, una partida de colonos británicos, cansados
de ser atacados por la confederación Wabanaki, deciden atacar un poblado
cercano, para dar un escarmiento.
On this occasion, a party of British settlers, tired
of being attacked by the Wabanaki confederation, decide to attack a nearby
town, to give an example.
Este ataque es realizado desde el este, por dos frentes
simultáneos.
This attack is carried out from the east, by two
simultaneous fronts.
Los colonos consiguen llegar hasta el campamento indio sin encontrar
oposición alguna.
The settlers manage to reach the Indian camp without
encountering any opposition.
El motivo de este acercamiento tan sorprendentemente
eficiente, fue porque los indígenas estaban esperándolos en los bosques cercanos.
The reason for this surprisingly efficient approach
was because the indigenous people were waiting for them in the nearby forests.
En cuanto los colonos están en campo abierto cerca del
poblado, los indios inician el ataque.
As soon as the settlers are in the open field near the
village, the Indians begin the attack.
El jefe indio, que estaba en el poblado para hacer de cebo,
consigue escaparse de esta primera acometida de los colonos, para unirse a sus
tropas del norte.
The Indian chief, who was in the town to act as bait,
managed to escape this first attack by the settlers, to join his troops from
the north.
Y los indios emboscados inician el asalto contra la milicia.
And the ambushed Indians begin the assault against the
militia.
Pero en espera de que los indios hicieran una jugada como
esta, la milicia había dejado a la mitad de sus hombres escondidos en los
bosques del este.
But waiting for the Indians to make a move like this,
the militia had left half their men hidden in the eastern woods.
Por lo que una parte de los indígenas se los encuentras cuando
estos están también en campo abierto.
So a part of the indigenous people find them when they
are also in the open field.
Mientras tanto, por el norte del poblado, los fuerzas
indígenas no dejan de empujar a los colonos.
Meanwhile, in the north of the town, the indigenous
forces do not stop pushing the settlers.
Pero el envite de los indios del sur, es rechazado por los
colonos escondidos en el bosque, por lo que deben realizar una retirada hacia
sus posiciones iniciales.
But the challenge of the Indians of the south, is
rejected by the colonists hidden in the forest, reason why they must realize a
retreat towards their initial positions.
Aunque parte de esas unidades, se enfrentan a los colonos
que pretendían quemar el poblado.
Although part of those units, they face the settlers
who wanted to burn down the town.
Por el norte, los indios consiguen arrebatar terreno a la
milicia.
To the north, the Indians manage to seize land from
the militia.
Los colonos consiguen reagruparse e inician el contraataque.
The colonists manage to regroup and begin the
counterattack.
Los indios han conseguido diezmar a los colonos que iban a
quemar el poblado, pero a costa de grandes pérdidas.
The Indians have managed to decimate the settlers who
were going to burn down the town, but at the cost of great losses.
Por lo que tienen que retirarse a posiciones más seguras,
con el resto de compañeros que están en el bosque reagrupándose.
So they have to retreat to safer positions, with the
rest of their companions who are in the forest regrouping.
La partida de indios del norte, continúan ganando terreno a
los colonos, que poco a poco tienen que ir retrocediendo.
The northern Indians continue to gain ground from the
settlers, who little by little have to go backward.
Aunque en un acto de valentía, un grupo de colonos aseguran
una zona vallada cercana al poblado.
Although in an act of bravery, a group of settlers
secure a fenced area near the town.
Los colonos supervivientes del ataque al poblado, en vez de
quemarlo, lo utilizan como parapeto para tener una mejor posición de disparo.
The surviving settlers of the attack on the village,
instead of burning it, use it as a parapet to have a better firing position.
El grupo parapetado en la zona vallada, reciben a varios
compañeros que se han atrevido a salir a campo abierto.
The group sheltered in the fenced area, receive
several companions who have dared to go out into the open.
Los restos de los indios que atacaban desde el sur, sólo
pueden replegarse hacia los bosques con el resto de compañeros que ya han
llegado allí.
The remains of the Indians attacking from the south
can only retreat into the woods with the rest of their comrades who have
already arrived there.
Al final, aunque los colonos han quemado la aldea y, por
consiguiente, ganaron la partida, quedaron más indígenas en pie que colonos.
Pero el objetivo de la partida lo consiguieron y los indios no.
In the end, although the settlers have burned the
village and thus won the game, more indigenous people were left standing than
settlers. But the objective of the game was achieved and the Indians did not.
Mi valoración es que es un reglamento ágil, simplón y que en
menos de dos horas puedes haber terminado la partida.
El objetivo de entretener un rato está más que logrado.
Si le buscamos pegas, seguro que le encontramos unas
cuantas, como a cualquier juego (aunque otros se les pueden encontrar
carretadas de ellas).
My assessment is that it is an agile, simple
regulation and that in less than two hours you can have finished the game.
The goal of entertaining for a while is more than
achieved.
If we look for hits, surely we will find a few, like
any game (although others can find cartloads of them).
Lo que nos sorprendió es que es un juego que utiliza el
combate de mosquete y el de cuerpo a cuerpo muy equilibrado. Y eso nos creó un
par de dudas:
- ¿Se puede jugar a escaramuzas de la época de la guerra de independencia norteamericana?
Respuesta: Si
- ¿Se puede jugar a escaramuzas de la época de la época napoleónica?
Respuesta: No.
Pero los amantes del juego han hecho las
modificaciones para poder usarlo para esa época, y parece que el editor del
juego tiene intención de sacar una versión del juego para esta época, pero sin
fecha prevista.
What surprised us is that it is a game that uses very
balanced musket combat and close combat. And that created a couple of doubts:
- Can you play skirmishes from the time of the American war of independence?
Answer:
Yes
- Can you play skirmishes from the Napoleonic era?
Answer: No.
But the game lovers have made the modifications to be able to use
it for that time, and it seems that the publisher of the game intends to
release a version of the game for this time, but without a planned date.
